We recently caught up with Kevin to learn more about his background, skills, and his thoughts on the value Outsourced CFO Services can bring to our clients at Strothman+Co.
Q: Let’s kick things off with an easy question. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
A: I’ve been married to my wife for 33 years, and we have two adult sons, and two grandsons that we spend a lot of time with. We’re really active members of our church. We lead a Life Group in our home every week and I’m a member of the Finance Committee.
I’ve also made an active hobby out of the Bourbon industry. I host a YouTube show and a podcast where we talk about music and whiskey. I’m also trying to get back into playing golf.
Q: What brought you to Strothman+Co?
A: I started in public accounting right out of college, working for a firm in Chattanooga, TN for a couple of years, then spent six years as a Controller for a construction company. After that, I went back into public accounting, first in Nashville, and then in Knoxville, where I helped that firm open a new office.
The firm was eventually acquired by a larger firm, which brought me to Louisville. I was there for seven years, mostly working in the assurance practice in the construction service group, but also working with a lot of manufacturing companies, professional service firms, and private equity groups, running due diligence engagements for M&A transactions.
After that, I spent 10 years running my own outsourced CFO business. Strothman+Co, which is actually where my wife, Cindy, works, approached me earlier this year to help them grow their outsourced accounting practice and I started here in late April.
Q: What attracted you to the opportunity at Strothman+Co?
A: With my background, this type of role was one I already had a feel for. I was excited about the opportunity to work with a variety of different companies in all kinds of industries, and to work on projects that could really make a difference for that client.
Q: What are some of the ways you feel working with our Outsourced CFO Service can help clients?
We’re helping our clients better understand their business and translate what they’re really good at as entrepreneurs into improved financial performance.
Every business needs strategic plans, budgets, forecasts, and a focus on the bottom line, but it’s often the case that business owners don’t have those kinds of resources internally. We can work with most any size of business in a wide range of industries, and the projects we work on are truly varied.
Q: What are your long-term goals for the Outsourced CFO Practice at Strothman+Co?
A: We want to help as many businesses as we can. I’d love to see our team grow and become entrenched as the go-to provider in this space. To be the firm that bankers and attorneys call when their clients need some financial assistance and the firm that our clients refer their fellow business owners to.
I believe our team is committed to rolling up our sleeves and providing the extraordinary level of client service required to build and maintain that reputation.
